There is no universal number of days. There is a right answer for your specific situation.
Everyone online will give you a number — 30 days, 45, 60. But no contact after a two-year relationship and no contact after a three-week situationship are not the same thing. Find yours below.
After a real breakup
Give it 30 to 60 days minimum. Long enough for the last version of you they remember to fade, and long enough for you to reach out from curiosity instead of panic.
After a situationship
Shorter — usually 2 to 3 weeks. There was less to grieve, but also less commitment holding them. Come back light and low-stakes, or don't come back at all.
If you were ghosted
Wait 3 to 4 weeks, then send one message. One. If there's no reply, that is the reply. Ghosting is information about their capacity, not your value.
If you were blocked
Don't reach out on another number, another app, or through a friend. Being blocked is a boundary. Give it months, and let them unblock you — that unblock is the actual signal.
Hot and cold behaviour
Here no contact isn't a countdown, it's a pattern break. Stay out until you genuinely don't feel the urge to check. Coming back mid-craving just restarts the loop.
If they asked for space
Honour it exactly, and add a little. If they said a few weeks, take a month. People remember who respected them when they were overwhelmed.
Reach out from curiosity, never from craving.
Signs it may be time
- —You can imagine no reply and still be fine.
- —They've been softly re-appearing — views, likes, an unblock.
- —You have something real to say, not just a reason to be seen.
- —Your life has genuinely changed since the last contact.
Signs to keep giving space
- —You're drafting the message in your notes app on repeat.
- —You need it to fix how you feel today.
- —Nothing has changed in the situation or in you.
- —You've already reached out and been left on read.
